Distribution:
This species is not found in the wild. Probably a domestic form of the White-backed Munia (L.striata), it was introduced by the Chinese several centuries ago. First seen in Europe in 1960's.
Diet:
Small cereal seeds, including millet sprays, and greenstuffs.
Sexing:
No visual distinction. However, the male usually sings to the female.
Nest:
Box or hooded bamboo style.
Clutch:
5-7 eggs.
Incubation:
About 20-21 days, by both parents.
Fledging:
20-24 days.
Note:
These birds make excellent foster parents. They maybe kept in a pair or group Often when kept together, birds will cram into a single nest, making proper incubation difficult.
